Rocket cargo delivery to contested environments

Hop Aero is building an unmanned rocket called Rook that carries 250 kg of cargo up to 750 km in roughly 15 minutes — the company's illustration is Okinawa to Taiwan in a quarter of an hour. Rook launches from a standard 40-foot shipping container, flies through space, re-enters at many times the speed of sound and lands on unprepared ground, so it needs no runway or launch pad. Hop Aero sees two markets: military logistics, including delivering swarms of small drones straight to a battlefield, and commercial emergency freight for factories, carmakers, aerospace firms, offshore oil rigs and pharmaceutical companies, where a delay can cost up to $2M an hour.
