Writer was founded in 2020 by May Habib (CEO) and Waseem AlShikh (CTO) in San Francisco. Habib, a former Bain consultant and startup founder, and AlShikh, a machine-learning veteran who previously led AI at Amazon and Siri at Apple, built Writer around a contrarian thesis: enterprises don't want to duct-tape consumer AI tools together — they want one full-stack platform where models, security, and compliance work together out of the box.
