AI-native CRM that lets go-to-market teams build their own systems on a flexible, real-time data model

About

Attio is a CRM built on the opposite premise from Salesforce: instead of forcing every company into a fixed schema of Accounts, Contacts, and Opportunities, it gives teams a flexible data model they can reshape into their own go-to-market system. Records, objects, and workflows are building blocks; the CRM adapts to the business rather than the reverse.

The founding story is unusually deliberate. Nicolas Sharp was a software engineer turned VC associate at London's Passion Capital; Alexander Christie was an engineer. They first built CRM tooling for venture capital and private equity firms — a profitable niche product — then killed it to build a general-purpose CRM. Three years of near-silence followed before launch, with a $7.7M seed from Point Nine in 2021 and a $23.5M Series A led by Redpoint in 2022.

The pitch crystallized in 2025 around being 'AI-native.' Attio's argument: legacy CRMs bolt AI features onto systems built for manual data entry, while Attio was rebuilt on primitives AI needs — native real-time ingestion of data from every source without duplicates or stale records, a workflow engine that automates across systems, programmable surfaces (APIs, SDKs, natural language), agent collaboration designed for humans and AI working side by side, and predictive intelligence. Customers like Modal describe finally building a CRM that fits their business instead of fitting the software.

Traction is real for this stage: 5,000+ paying customers including Lovable, Granola, Modal, Replicate, and Public; a reported 4x ARR growth trajectory in 2025; and a $52M Series B led by GV (Google Ventures) in August 2025 with Michael McBride — GitLab's former CRO — joining the board. The open question is the classic one for design-led upstarts: whether builder-grade CRM can climb into the enterprise where Salesforce and HubSpot have decades of lock-in.

The Take

Attio is the most credible attempt yet to rebuild CRM around a flexible, programmable data model instead of Salesforce's fixed schema — and with 5,000 paying customers like Lovable, Modal, and Replicate, plus a reported 4x ARR growth year, it's winning the startups and scale-ups that legacy CRM treats as an afterthought.
