Celonis was founded in 2011 by Alexander Rinke, Bastian Nominacher and Martin Klenk while they were students at the Technical University of Munich (TU Munich). What began as a university consulting project analyzing business processes for a media company became a global enterprise software leader. Its core innovation is Process Mining — reconstructing end-to-end processes from event logs in SAP, Oracle, Salesforce and other systems to create a digital twin ("X-ray") of operations, revealing bottlenecks, deviations and automation opportunities. This evolved into the Celonis Execution Management System (EMS) and later the Celonis Process Intelligence Graph, adding real-time intelligence, automation triggers, and AI/LLM capabilities.
