The world's highest-performing quantum computers — trapped ions on the road to fault tolerance by 2029
HQ: Broomfield, CO, United States (US/UK operations) | Founded: 2021 | Employees: ~600 (est.) | Stage: Late Stage VC ($10B pre-money, 2025) | Website: https://www.quantinuum.com
Quantinuum was formed in late 2021 by merging Honeywell Quantum Solutions — the trapped-ion hardware program run out of Honeywell's aerospace-grade engineering culture — with Cambridge Quantum, the UK software company behind quantum cryptography (Quantum Origin), chemistry (InQuanto), and the TKET development platform. The merger created the only quantum company with top-tier hardware, software, and cryptography under one roof, and Honeywell retained majority ownership (~54% today).
The hardware record is the company's core asset. Its H-Series trapped-ion systems hold industry-leading benchmarks on quantum volume and two-qubit gate fidelity, and in November 2025 Quantinuum launched Helios commercially: 98 barium-ion qubits with 99.9975% single-qubit and 99.921% two-qubit fidelity, weaving
