AI for chip design, and chip design for more capable AI
HQ: Palo Alto, California, United States | Founded: 2025 | Employees: Not disclosed in the reviewed sources | Stage: Series A; $335M announced funding; $4B post-money valuation January 2026 | Website: https://www.ricursive.com/
Ricursive is a frontier AI lab applying AI and distributed computing to semiconductor development. Its December 2, 2025 public launch describes a platform intended to accelerate chip design and establish a feedback loop between improved hardware and more capable models. Funding releases place it in Palo Alto.
Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini pioneered AlphaChip before forming Ricursive. The January announcement describes that earlier work as adopted across four TPU generations and external chip companies. Those are historical research deployments, not evidence that those organizations are paying Ricursive customers or that Ricursive owns Google IP.
Seed and Series A announcements fund research, engineering, compute, and early enterprise engagement. The current site lists team experience from AI labs, semiconductor firms, and EDA vendors, but does not provide a complete public commercial specification or price list.
Ricursive aims to make semiconductor development keep pace with AI research. Its founders co-created AlphaChip, giving the company relevant prior work rather than only a speculative story. AlphaChip's prior use at Google must not be confused with a Ricursive customer or proof of this new company's full-stack commercial platform.
Financing is unusually large for a newly launched lab: $35M led by Sequoia at a stated $750M valuation in December 2025, followed by $300M led by Lightspeed at $4B post-money in January 2026. The official website confirms $335M in backing.
Editorial assessment: accelerating expensive engineering could deliver enterprise value before the recursive self-improvement vision is realized. EDA integration, verification, actual chip performance, and compute economics are the practical hurdles. Revenue, named customers, shipping dates, and independent full-stack evaluations were not disclosed in reviewed sources.
