Build and ship real native mobile apps from a prompt — the vibe-coding platform for the App Store
HQ: San Francisco, CA, United States | Founded: 2024 | Employees: Small seed-stage team (under ~20) | Stage: Seed ($15M led by Left Lane Capital, April 2026); ~$18M total raised | Website: https://rork.com
Rork is an AI app builder for mobile. A user describes an app in plain language; Rork generates a real native application — Swift or React Native/Expo — complete with working UI, data, authentication and payments, ready to test on a device and publish to the App Store or Google Play. No Xcode, no Android Studio, no code required.
The company was founded in 2024 by Daniel Dhawan and Levan Kvirkvelia, both repeat mobile entrepreneurs who had each bootstrapped three startups before Rork. Dhawan, a former math and physics olympiad winner, reached #2 in the App Store across three countries with his own apps; Kvirkvelia built Russia's largest educational timetable and Q&A app at 17, scaling it past two million users. They initially started Rork as an AI tool for web development — and when Lovable launched and dominated that category, they made the pivotal call to refocus on mobile: harder, more valuable, and unsolved by AI.
Rork launched publicly on February 12, 2025 with a single tweet. Usage surged within days, and a $2.8M pre-seed followed from a16z Speedrun with Hustle Fund, ChapterOne, Founders Inc., and angels including Expo's Charlie Cheever and Evan Bacon, and Runway's Siqi Chen. By early 2026 the company described itself as the largest AI platform for building mobile apps by web traffic, ranked top-two in the App Store's Developer Tools category, and the number-one referring website to RevenueCat — the billing infrastructure of the App Store entrepreneur economy.
In April 2026 Rork raised a $15M seed led by Left Lane Capital with Peak XV, True Ventures, Goodwater and a16z Speedrun. Weeks later it shipped Rork Max, powered by Claude Code and Claude Opus: the first web platform that builds native Swift apps for every Apple platform, replacing Xcode for non-developers — plus its first acquisition, Paperline, a macOS AI Swift builder. The company's thesis: as AI collapses the cost of building, a new class of App Store entrepreneurs will build and monetize apps without ever learning to code.
Every AI app-builder raced to web apps because web is easy. Rork picked the hard problem: native mobile. Real apps on the App Store mean Swift and React Native, app-store review, device testing, push notifications, in-app purchases — a surface the founders say is roughly ten times more complex than web. That complexity is the moat: Lovable, Bolt and Base44 own web vibe-coding, but mobile was unsolved, and mobile is where the money is (the App Store moves $160B+ a year in consumer spend).
The origin story is a lesson in positioning. Daniel Dhawan and Levan Kvirkvelia — each a three-time bootstrapped app entrepreneur (Dhawan hit #2 in the App Store across three countries; Kvirkvelia built Russia's largest educational app at 17) — started Rork as an AI web-coding tool. When Lovable launched and took the web category, they pivoted back to their mobile roots and relaunched in February 2025. Within a year Rork was the largest AI mobile-app platform by web traffic, the #1 referring site to RevenueCat (the subscription-analytics service App Store entrepreneurs live on — a telling proxy for who's building), and a $15M seed followed from Left Lane with Peak XV, True Ventures and Goodwater.
The 2026 release shows where this goes: Rork Max, powered by Claude Code and Claude Opus, is the first web-based Swift builder that can replace Xcode itself — every Apple platform (iPhone, iPad, Watch, TV, Vision Pro, iMessage) from English prompts, published in two clicks. It generated 8M+ views on X and doubled annual revenue in two weeks. The company also acquired Paperline (a macOS AI Swift builder) and cultivates a new class of 'App Store entrepreneurs' — like the 18-year-old who built a wrestling-coach app to $30K/month. The risks are Apple's gatekeeping, model-lab bundling (if Claude or GPT ship first-party mobile builders), and quality at scale. But as the 'everything is vibe-coded' era matures, owning the mobile surface — the most valuable one — is the position everyone else wishes they'd taken.
