Base Power was founded in 2023 in Austin by Zach Dell (son of Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell) and Justin Bonnar, with a simple but radical retail proposition: instead of selling homeowners an expensive battery, Base installs one for free (or at steeply reduced cost) and makes money selling the household electricity — a fixed low rate plus whole-home backup that kicks in automatically during outages.
