HQ: Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India | Founded: 2017 | Employees: 35 | Stage: Seed | Website: https://www.gimbooks.com
GimBooks is a cloud-based, mobile-first bookkeeping and business management platform for India's small and micro businesses. It provides GST-compliant invoicing, inventory management, e-waybills, purchase orders, quotations, payment tracking, and GSTR filing. Also offers value-added services like loans, insurance, and integrated banking. Started in August 2017 as a simple Android invoice maker app. Evolved into a full-stack accounting platform after India's GST launch created massive demand for digital compliance tools. Founded by Yash Raj Agrawal (CEO), Meghal Agrawal, and Ujjwal Agrawal. Yash previously worked at Target Corporation Bangalore and was a trader in the pyrolysis recycling industry. YC Winter 2021 batch (first Chatttisgarh-based startup in YC). Raised $125K from Y Combinator and additional seed funding from First Check Ventures (led by Ali Jamal) and Google for Startups Accelerator. Total ~$835K+ raised. Winner of the Atma-Nirbhar Bharat Innovation Challenge (top 3 Indian apps in business category, selected by MeitY, NITI Aayog, MyGov). Winner of Startup of the Year by Entrepreneur Organization. 30-40 employees. HQ in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India.
GimBooks serves a massive TAM — India's 63M+ MSMEs, most of whom still use paper-based bookkeeping. The mobile-first, Hindi-friendly, GST-compliant approach is well-positioned. YC backing raised their profile. Key risk: intense competition from well-funded players (ClearTax, Zoho Books, Vyapar, Khatabook) and moderate revenue (<$1M). Slow growth (bootstrapped for 4 years before YC). Geography (Raipur) may limit talent access.
